New synagogue inaugurated in Vitebsk first time in 100 years
For the first time in 100 years a new synagogue was opened in Vitebsk in October 2017. The opening ceremony was attended by members of Vitebsk' Jewish religious community, representatives of the regional and city authorities, Orthodox and Catholic churches, guests from other cities and countries, and local residents.
In 2019, the tradition of Torah study was revived in the synagogue. The Jewish religious community House of Israel opened a kollel. The kollel study program (it is informally called a "university" where adults study Jewish laws) includes two semesters.
