Weichai Group’s assistance sought for making BelAZ trucks in China

Weichai Group’s assistance sought for making BelAZ trucks in China

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich suggested establishing a foothold in the mining equipment market in China as he met with Chairman of China’s Weichai Group Tan Xuguang, BelTA has learned.

Being the chairman of the supervisory board of the Belarusian automobile engineering company BelAZ Mikhail Myasnikovich suggested that Weichai Group become a reliable partner of BelAZ in China. “We could jointly establish a foothold to produce and market haul trucks in China for the needs of the Chinese market and Southeast Asian markets,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. He also called to consider joint projects as a window of opportunities to fill Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road initiative with real content.

Weichai has experience of working in Belarus, Mikhail Myasnikovich noted. The construction of a new joint plant to produce gearboxes is underway. The corporation has already assembled thousands of engines for the Belarusian mechanical engineering industry. Mikhail Myasnikovich asked Tan Xuguan about the development of the company’s business in Belarus. Mikhail Myasnikovich wanted to know whether there are matters that should be regulated by the national legislation or settled with the help of administrative or other measures in order to facilitate the implementation of joint projects.

Mikhail Myasnikovich believes that over the years of fruitful cooperation the Chinese corporation made sure that Belarus has qualified and disciplined staff,  proper science, and property protection which is regulated by law.

Weichai is one of China’s largest automobile engineering corporations. It is based in the city of Weifang in Shandong province and has enterprises and affiliates in China, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America. Weichai ranks 84th among China’s 500 top companies and is one of the world leaders in production of engines, power generators, wheeled vehicles, and automotive components.

Taking part in the meeting were also BelAZ Director General Piotr Parkhomchik and Belarus’ Industry Minister Pavel Utyupin. The parties discussed prospects of cooperation between Weichai Group and the Belarusian automobile engineering company MAZ in producing gearboxes.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus’ MAZ and China’s Weichai Group established a joint venture. The MAZ-Weichai company became a resident company of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone in October 2017. In April 2018, the company started constructing an engine factory. The factory undertook a trial run to produce internal combustion engines in November 2018.
