Vitebsk to host 14th National Environment Forum 11 May

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – The 14th National Environment Forum will be held in Vitebsk on 11 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of natural resources and Environment Protection.

“In 2017, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection holds the 14th National Environment Forum. Given the country’s focus on the rational use of natural resources, investment, innovative technologies and the gradual transition to a green economy, the National Environment Forum will be co-located with the 6th International Economic Forum “Innovation. Investments. Prospects”, the press service noted.

The ministry said that the main objectives of the forum are to consolidate all sectors of society in order to address the problems of environmental protection, to promote the rational use of natural resources, to involve Belarusian citizens in the environmental movement, to raise the environmental awareness, and to promote the principles of sustainable use of natural resources. It is planned that the final events of the forum will be attended by more than 250 delegates, including representatives from environmental services, government bodies, educational and cultural institutions, public associations, media, guests from foreign countries and also residents of Vitebsk and other regions.

The forum will be comprised of an exhibition, a business part, environmental events, festivals, press events, a concert program, a reward ceremony for enterprises, organizations and institutions for their significant contribution to the cause of environmental protection. The business part of the forum will feature the section “Water”, a roundtable “Promoting the green economy in the Republic of Belarus: principles and mechanisms” and the workshop on the practical use of software products in the inventory procedures and reporting emissions under the Gothenburg Protocol. Protocols, contracts, plans and agreements are expected to be signed during the forum at the international and national level.

“The exhibition will be interesting for representatives of ministries and departments, industrial enterprises in need of environmental equipment and environmental technologies, professionals, academics, manufacturers of equipment in the field of ecology, business representatives, and the general public interested in environmental issues,” the ministry said.

The forum participants will join environmental events in tree planting and landscaping.

The organizers of the 14th National Environment Forum are the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection, the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, the Vitebsk Regional Committee of Natural Resources and Environment Protection, and the Vitebsk Regional Marketing Center. The forum is organized with the assistance of the international technical assistance project “Supporting the Transition to a Green Economy in the Republic of Belarus” funded by the EU and implemented by the UNDP, and the international technical assistance project “Technical assistance to support the development of green economy in Belarus” funded by the EU and implemented by a consortium run by Hulla & Co Human Dynamics.
