Vitebsk Oblast viewed as Slovakia's priority partner

VITEBSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Slovakia views Vitebsk Oblast as a priority partner, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migas said at the opening of the 5th international economic forum Innovations. Investments. Prospects in Vitebsk on 12 May, BelTA has learned.

“Following the principle “better less, but of higher quality”, it is more right to work out and implement 2-3 projects. We are determined to do serious business here. Vitebsk Oblast is among our priorities. Sanctions against Belarus have been recently lifted, and now we should work hard to fill in this space. I think other EU countries will understand that the best thing to have is peaceful and concrete trade and economic cooperation. Both Belarus and our countries need this,” Jozef Migas said.

Over the past three months the diplomat has paid his third visit to Vitebsk Oblast. At first he met with the Vitebsk Oblast Governor to outline promising areas for breakthrough innovative projects. Jozef Migas was then given a tour of the local farms to find the best place to set up a joint company to raise cattle. “Our specialists are currently making the estimates. We are also considering cooperation in the woodworking industry – to build a new plant or launch a new technological line. We are working in the energy sector as well. We are implementing a project to build a hydropower station on the Western Dvina and other similar small and medium-sized facilities. In Orsha we are building a plant to process electrotechnical and energy waste. It will be commissioned next year,” the Ambassador added.

Jozef Migas invited everyone to attend the Slovak Days in Vitebsk on 12-14 July. The program includes cultural events, the discussion of the tourism cooperation and the economic forum.

The 5th international economic forum Innovations. Investments. Prospects is underway in Vitebsk on 12-13 May. Its program includes a business matchmaking session, the signing of the agreements on cooperation, the international conference Energy and Resource Saving 2016, the workshop FEZ – a priority form to attract foreign investment in the economy, and the seminar Life-Giving Power of Breathing – a joint project of China and Vitebsk Medical University. On 13 May the onsite workshop Innovations and Prospects in the Logistics Sector will take place in Orsha with visits to the district leading companies. The forum will also feature regional and international expositions.
