Uzbekistan eager to sell more cars, fabrics to Belarus

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Uzbekistan would like to sell more cars and fabrics to Belarus. Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiyev made the statement during the session of the intergovernmental commission on Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation on 18 June, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “A broad range of cars is made in Uzbekistan together with General Motors. We’ve done some rebranding, introduced new models, and are now ready to offer a modern lineup of vehicles, which are absolutely competitive on international markets. I hope they will be in demand on the Belarusian market.”

Uzbekistan can also increase shipments of a broad range of fabrics, textiles as well as various non-ferrous metals to Belarus. The textile industries in Uzbekistan and Belarus are well-developed. They could complement each other, the deputy prime minister believes.

In his opinion, with current dynamics Belarus-Uzbekistan trade can reach $1 billion as per instructions of the heads of state within the next three years. “We believe it is very important to step up joint work in the spheres of manufacturing sector, mechanical engineering, light and food industries, agriculture, and pharmaceutics,” Elyor Ganiyev stressed. The bilateral trade can also grow higher if more of popular products are sold on the Belarusian market and the Uzbek one. The sides are now taking care of the certification of merchandise. “We have to finish the reconciliation of matters concerning the mutual recognition of conformance certificates, results of lab tests. Work in this area is already in progress. I think it will greatly facilitate access of Belarusian vehicles and machines to the Uzbek market among other things,” Elyor Ganiyev said. Besides, the Uzbek side is interested in setting up a simpler mechanism of customs control for deliveries of fruits and vegetables.
