Two IMF technical missions to visit Belarus by year-end

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Two technical missions from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are expected to visit Belarus by the end of 2016, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Dmitry Kalechits said during the round table Belarus’ Talks with the IMF: Key Aspects and the Balance of Interests in the BelTA press center.

Speaking about the results of the talks on the new program with the IMF in Washington, Dmitry Kalechits noted that the fund praised the efforts of the Belarusian government and the National Bank to ensure the macro-financial balance of the economy. “We agreed to continue cooperation in the preparation of the program,” he said. “We will polish certain macroeconomic parameters within the framework of the common scenario.”

The forthcoming visits of the IMF technical missions to Minsk will focus on the most sensitive issues for Belarus, Dmitry Kalechits said. “First of all, these pertain to the utilities sector reform, social security, and efficient operation of the public sector,” he explained.

The missions are expected to arrive from the end of October till the beginning of November. “When working on these elements, we will take steps towards the harmonization of the credit program,” he concluded.
