GOMEL, 5 February (BelTA) – Over 1,000 jobs will be created by two foreign enterprises in Gomel in 2016, BelTA learned from Dmitry Litvinov, Deputy Head of the Economy Office of the Gomel City Executive Committee, on 5 February.
According to the source, the two enterprises are Delcom40 (production of furniture and components) and Hydrosila BELAR (production of hydraulic systems). They have injected about $6 million in foreign investments into the city economy. In 2016 the two companies are expected to create over 1,000 jobs. Once they reach the designed output capacity, in 2017-2018 they will employ 2,500-3,000 people.
Speaking about last year’s performance of Gomel’s production sector during the session of the Gomel City Executive Committee on 5 February, the official noted that the performance can be called good on the whole. The targeted foreign direct investment volume was secured as well as the targeted housing commissioning figure, tax revenues from small and medium businesses, the stock in storage percentage at municipal enterprises.
According to Dmitry Litvinov, the priority tasks that will have to be resolved this year include efforts to increase the export potential as much as possible, attraction of foreign direct investments, the reduction of the prime cost of merchandise, and the creation of jobs. “In 2016 Gomel enterprises will have to create over 2,200 jobs. The state of the city’s labor market confirms it. In 2014 the city employment assistance agency offered about 1,700 jobs every month. In 2015 the figure dropped to 900. This is why the creation of jobs will be the key indicator to judge the performance of enterprises,” stated Dmitry Litvinov.
