Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority delegation visits Belarusian nuclear power plant

Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority delegation visits Belarusian nuclear power plant

MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – Representatives of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) of Turkey together with representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant, the Information and Public Relations Department of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant told BelTA.

The visit was organized to implement the memorandum of understanding between the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) and the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Turkey on cooperation and information exchange in the area of nuclear safety and radiation protection.

The Turkish specialists were made familiar with the current state of the first unit and the second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, with the process of the nuclear power plant’s licensing by regulatory authorities, with the work of the control room personnel, with the personnel training system, and with the equipment used in the local training facility.

Summing up results of the visit to the Belarusian nuclear power plant, NDK Vice President Oguz Can remarked: “It was very useful to see an analog of the control board of a nuclear power plant unit – a full-scale simulator. We have the same one in Turkey during the nuclear power plant construction stage. We’ve also seen the work you did well both during the construction stage and during the pilot commercial operation stage. We were made familiar with the experience of Belarusian colleagues and will go back to Turkey with very good impressions of your nuclear power plant and your work as a whole.”

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW.
