Turkey among largest direct foreign investors in Belarusian economy

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA – Anadolu Agency) – Turkey is one of the largest direct foreign investors in the Belarusian economy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Belarus Kezban Nilvana Darama said in an interview with Anadolu Agency on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“It is important to say about Turkish construction specialists who have successfully implemented a number of construction projects not only in Minsk, but also in other cities of Belarus. Considering the investments of the Turkish provider of telecommunication and technology services Turkcell, Turkey is among the leaders in terms of direct foreign investment in the Belarusian economy,’’ the ambassador noted.

Kezban Nilvana Darama pointed out that the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Belarus in November 2016 gave a fresh impetus to the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

“The visit of the Turkish leader became a milestone in the relations between Belarus and Turkey. During his visit to Belarus, Recep Tayyip Erdogan was accompanied by a large delegation of businessmen,” the diplomat noted.

Kezban Nilvana Darama said that the interest of Turkish entrepreneurs in Belarus is growing. Since the launch of the 30-day visa-free travel between Belarus and Turkey for tourists and businessmen, more and more Turkish businesses have been exploring Belarus’ potential.

“Belarus has recently hosted a delegation from the Kocaeli Chamber of Commerce and Industry. A delegation of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry will pay a visit to Belarus in the near future,” Kezban Nilvana Darama said.

She noted that apart from the areas that traditionally attract interest from Turkish business, which include chemical industry, textile industry and mechanical engineering, Turkey has also been showing a growing interest in Belarus’ well-developed IT sector.
