MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – A tanker with 80,000 tonnes of Bakken crude oil from the United States for Belarus will arrive in the port of Klaipeda in early June, Aleksandr Tishchenko, the spokesman for the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim, told BelTA.

“Yesterday the tanker began loading at the port of Beaumont [Texas]. The departure is scheduled for 17 May, the arrival in Klaipeda - in early June,”  Aleksandr Tishchenko.

He specified that it is Bakken crude oil, it will be delivered from the port of Klaipeda to Belarus by rail and processed at Naftan.

Belarus’  Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei confirmed the beginning of delivery of oil from the U.S. to Belarus. “It became possible as a result of the agreements reached during the visit to the Republic of Belarus of U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and his meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko,” the minister said. According to Vladimir Makei, the delivery of American oil is part of the state strategy to diversify sources (supply) and secure steady functioning of the oil processing complex of Belarus in 2020 and subsequent years.

According to U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, the first shipment of U.S. crude oil will depart for Belarus this week, with the assistance of the Polish partner UNIMOT. “This competitive deal, by U.S. energy trader United Energy Trading, with the assistance of U.S. firm Getka and their Polish partner UNIMOT, strengthens Belarusian sovereignty and independence, demonstrates that the United States is ready to deliver trade opportunities for American companies interested in entering the Belarusian market,” TASS cited Michael Pompeo as saying.
