Tajikistan wants to open multi-purpose trade complex in Minsk

Tajikistan wants to open multi-purpose trade complex in Minsk

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – Tajikistan wants to open a multi-purpose trade complex in Minsk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan to Belarus Bakhtovar Safarzoda told reporters, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that Belarus is one of Tajikistan’s key partners. The countries seek to promote cooperation in all areas, including in the cultural and humanitarian field. But economy remains a priority.

“In 2023, our trade slightly dropped, but we are on track to catch up in 2024 and beat the 2023 figures,” said Bakhtovar Safarzoda. “We want to open a multi-purpose trade complex that will serve as a coordinating center for representatives of both countries,” the diplomat said.

The ambassador recalled that Belarusian agricultural machinery has been assembled in Tajikistan since 2017. He called such cooperation a good way to promote bilateral relations. “In addition to Tajikistan, these assembly products are also popular in the neighboring countries,” the diplomat noted.

A reminder, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in November 2023. Back then, the Belarusian head of state announced plans to increase bilateral trade and supported the opening of a major trade center.

“We are well positioned to increase bilateral trade up to $100 million. I want you to know that we are ready to buy any amount of your products, especially the agricultural products that we don’t have. This is why Tajikistan has contacted us with a request to open a big trade center here. I want to reassure you that we will do everything to help this plan materialize. We have suggested three locations in Minsk. If you don’t like them, we can find others. We are ready to work on it together with you,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
