MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) - Sudan is interested in innovative technologies in water treatment, extraction and processing of minerals, farm animal and plant genetics, medicine, and pharmaceutical production, Sudanese Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Somaya Abo Kashwa said during a meeting with the senior officials of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), BelTA learned from the NASB press service.

Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov announced that the NASB will prepare a list of concrete projects in the areas of particular interest for Sudan. A group of Belarusian scientists and experts will go to Sudan. Signing a cooperation agreement between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Sudan can be the next step in the cooperation.

According to Vladimir Gusakov, the NASB attaches particular importance to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Sudan. “Sudan has a great scientific and education potential. Belarus and Sudan share many scientific interests, and the organizations of the Academy of Sciences are working on those areas that are of interest to Sudan. We are ready to provide full support in this matter,” he said.

During the negotiations the NASB and the Sudanese delegation discussed the prospects of development of Belarusian-Sudanese cooperation in science and technology. The promising areas also include agrochemistry, fishing, storage of agricultural products, food production, solar energy, training of scientific personnel. The talks were attended by Chairman of the Belarusian State Science and Technology Committee Alexander Shumilin.

The Sudanese delegation was headed by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Somaya Abo Kashwa and included heads of major educational and scientific organizations. The guests got acquainted with the NASB History Museum, the NASB permanent exhibition of scientific achievements and also visited the Researchers Training Institute and the United Institute of Informatics Problems at the NASB. Currently, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus cooperates with the academies of science and scientific centers from 90 countries.
