MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – The Republic of Korea is interested in buying Belarusian IT products, BelTA learned from Shin Myoung-jin, Chairman of the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA), before the Belarusian-Korean business forum began on 21 May.
Shin Myoung-jin said: “Belarus has advanced fundamental science, a good foundation for making high-tech products. We can advance our mutually beneficial cooperation with this in mind. We are considering importing products in the area of information technologies. Belarus prides itself on making agricultural machines. We are considering cooperation options in this area, too.”
Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich noted that the greatest potential for advancing cooperation between Belarus and South Korea lies in the sphere of innovations. There is positive experience of cooperation involving the Hi-Tech Park in Minsk.
According to the source, South Korea buys products made by the Belarusian steel mill BMZ and flax fabrics. “Our food may become in demand, too. In 2017 Belarus’ export to South Korea totaled $42 million,” said Vladimir Ulakhovich. In January-March 2018 the figure reached $38 million. “Export is on the rise. The most important thing is that we can offer new products to South Korea,” said the official.
Representatives of 12 Korean companies are taking part in the Belarusian-Korean business forum. “The Belarusian side is represented by about 50 companies. Very serious negotiations will be held,” summed up the chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Participants of the forum are expected to discuss the organization of the export of chemical products to South Korea as well as security solutions, automobile parts, industrial equipment, food, apparel and textile, gifts, handmade products, and other things. Plans have been made to consider prospects of expanding contacts between Belarusian exporters and South Korean importers as well as interaction in science and technology.
