MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) - Belgrade is interested in buying Belarusian buses, Mayor of the Serbian capital Belgrade Sinisa Mali said during the solemn ceremony of laying a capsule in the foundation of the fourth phase of the project to build the multipurpose complex Mayak Minska ("Lighthouse of Minsk"), BelTA has learned.
"Within the next 15 days the Director of the Belgrade transport enterprise will come to Minsk and compile a plan to purchase new buses and modernize the trolleybuses," said Sinisa Mali. The Serbian side is also considering the possibility of building a subway in Belgrade by joint efforts.
“A Belgrade delegation arrived in Minsk to intensify the cooperation between the two capitals, the foundation of which was laid down during a visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Serbia last year,” the Belgrade Mayor said. Back then Minsk and Belgrade signed a cooperation agreement.
In addition to the transport area, the two cities are planning to develop cooperation in culture. Minsk is expecting a delegation of the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce to discuss holding Belgrade's days in Minsk in spring 2016. "The more people communicate, the more ideas we have. This, in turn, will make a major contribution to the cooperation between our countries,” said Sinisa Mali. “And, of course, it is logical that the two capitals are carriers of this cooperation: the more we cooperate, the closer we connect our two peoples and our two cultures,” the Belgrade Mayor noted.
"There are very few countries that Serbia considers as brotherly. Belarus is one of such countries," said the Mayor of Belgrade.
Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets, in turn, stressed that the parties had a meaningful discussion, highlighted common goals and approaches to different activities. He expressed the hope that all the agreements reached in Minsk will be implemented soon.
