MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – The second power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) has generated 10 billion kWh of electricity since it was connected to the national power grid on 13 May 2023, BelTA learned from the BelNPP.
In total, the Belarusian NPP generated more than 36 billion kWh of electricity, including about 14.2 billion kWh this year, which was 20% higher than the electricity generation in 2023.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant uses the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. It is an evolutionary nuclear power plant design with third-generation water-moderated reactors. Such designs boast improved technical and economic parameters. A combination of active and passive safeguards is their key feature. The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was put into commercial operation in June 2021, the second unit - in November 2023.
