Sakhalin ready to be springboard for Belarusian exports to Asian-Pacific Region

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, 4 September (BelTA) - Sakhalin is ready to be a springboard for the Belarusian exports to the Asian-Pacific Region, Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako said talking to the Belarusian and federal Russian mass media in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

“Our region can be of interest for Belarus, including from the point of view of the vicinity to the Asian-Pacific Region. This provides additional advantages and prospects. This region can be made a basic point for the export of products to the Asian countries,” the governor said.

In his words, foreign partners, the same as Russians, trust in the quality of Belarusian products, while Sakhalin can be made into a so-called bridge for the implementation of joint projects on the delivery of products to Japan, Korea, and China. According to Oleg Kozhemyako, he and Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats will soon travel to Japan to discuss such projects.

State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota added that the idea to work together in the area of exports is a matter of the future. However, the first steps should be made today already. “Such work is underway. The future Belarusian-Russian contracts will cover this area,” Grigory Rapota said.

The meeting of the Belarusian and Russian journalists with Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako took place as part of a press tour to the region organized by the Union State Permanent Committee and the international information agency Russia Today.
