Russia’s Penza Oblast interested in manufacturing cooperation with Belarusian companies

BREST, 30 March (BelTA) – Penza Oblast is interested in manufacturing cooperation ties with Belarusian producers. Governor of Russia’s Penza Oblast Oleg Melnichenko made the statement during the first session of the working group on cooperation of Belarus and this Russian region in Brest, BelTA has learned.

Oleg Melnichenko stated that Penza Oblast had established good relations with Belarus, however, the pandemic had prevented active interaction. In particular, during the current visit the Russian region’s delegation intends to discuss projects in the sphere of agriculture (breeding and machine building), production sector, housing and utilities.

Oleg Melnichenko went on saying: “We’ve chosen about 800 imported products, which we need to substitute and which can be really made by enterprises in Brest Oblast and Belarus as a whole. But it is only the beginning. We have about 6,000 imports in need of substitution. The present time encourages us to more tightly interact, primarily with regard to manufacturing cooperation ties in economy.” He added that Penza Oblast is an industrial region. “We have radio electronics, we carry out R&D in the sphere of nuclear industry machine building, we work on various space programs. A broad range. This is why we will also discuss the product range Penza Oblast is ready to supply to Belarus in detail,” the governor concluded.

Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Yuri Shuleiko is authorized to oversee cooperation with Penza Oblast on the Belarusian side. The Brest Oblast governor pointed out that the sides had outlined a major project for cooperation. “Manufacturing cooperation ties are supposed to grow stronger across the board. We count on fruitful relations,” Yuri Shuleiko said. “The sanctions-fueled pressure will encourage us towards tighter manufacturing cooperation. We are losing some particularly important components but our republic has a lot to offer. We need time and manufacturing cooperation with Russia and countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. It will allow plugging the hole. We do not stop and are looking for ways out.”

The Russian delegation has an extensive itinerary for the visit to Belarus. Representatives of Penza Oblast visited the border guard station Brest named after Andrei Kizhevatov. They handed over archive documents about Andrei Kizhevatov, who grew up in Penza Oblast, to the border guard station's museum. Representatives of the Russian region will visit the memorial complex Brest Hero Fortress and a number of enterprises and will participate in a business matchmaking session of Penza Oblast exporters and Brest Oblast exporters.
