MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – Russia is interested in developing a new spacecraft in cooperation with Belarus. This will be a super-resolution land remote sensing satellite, ONT Channel said.
The Belarusian part of the satellite will be an electro-optical device to be produced by Peleng Company. The new version, as contrasted with its predecessor launched several years ago, will be of higher resolution.
According to Peleng Director General Vladimir Pokryshkin, the meeting on the development of a new spacecraft was chaired by Belarus’ Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko. “We came to a conclusion that the new satellite should be developed together with our partners. It will be cheaper and will be in a greater demand,” he said.
According to Vladimir Pokryshkin, the characteristics of the satellite were compared to those of the world’s best models. “We believe it will be competitive and its product will be in demand both in Belarus and Russia,” the director general added.
A special Belarusian-Russian commission will be set up to include scientists, representatives of the corresponding companies, Roscosmos State Corporation, and experts. They plan to visit Peleng Company to discuss the characteristics of the spacecraft and its trials. The future Belarusian-Russian land remote sensing satellite might go into orbit in some 3-4 years, the TV channel said.
