ROSTOV-ON-DON, 25 September (BelTA) – The business community of Russia’s Rostov Oblast is interested in scaling up cooperation with Belarus, governor of the region Vasily Golubev told the media after a meeting with State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota, Executive Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly Sergei Strelchenko and heads of the Belarusian mass media outlets. The meeting was held in Rostov-on-Don on 25 September, BelTA has learned.

The governor welcomed efficient cooperation between Belarus and Rostov Oblast in economy, science and technology and culture. He emphasized that bilateral cooperation holds a lot of promise. “We will strive to achieve even more,” he said.

Vasily Golubev informed that in 2018 the trade between Belarus and Rostov Oblast expanded by 18% over the previous year. “I am convinced that we are well positioned to step up our cooperation; we have many areas of common interest and the number of these areas keeps growing. Business is interested in cooperation,” he added.

According to the governor, direct flights between Minsk and Rostov-on-Don launched in 2018 played a role in promoting bilateral cooperation. He pointed to great cooperation prospects in tourism. “I spent one of my recent vacations in Belarus. I was there in August last year. I traveled across the country, enjoyed Belovezhskaya Pushcha, I saw what was going on in three regions of Belarus, I visited the Brest Fortress and the renovated Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. When I was leaving Belarus I was sure that I would come there again,” the governor said.

State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota added that the parties discussed promising avenues of cooperation. “It is encouraging that Belarusian machinery is popular here. There are good contacts in agriculture, too” he said.

On behalf of Belarus the meeting was attended by BelTA Director General Irina Akulovich, Director - Editor-in-Chief of the Belarus Segodnya publishing house Dmitry Zhuk, Director - Editor-in-Chief of the Zvezda publishing house Pavel Sukhorukov, and Director of the National Press Center Sergei Protas.
