MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – The share of renewable energy in the fuel and energy mix of Belarus has exceeded 8%, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich said during a meeting with the students of Belarusian State Agricultural Academy, BelTA learned from the ministry press office.
“We are well ahead of schedule,” Viktor Karankevich noted. “According to Belarus’ Energy Security Concept, we were meant to achieve this target by 2030. Thanks to rapid construction of new renewable energy facilities both in the energy system and across the whole country, their share in the fuel and energy mix, according to our calculations, already amounted to 8.1% in 2022,” he said.
The installed capacity of renewable energy facilities in Belarus over the past nine years has increased fivefold: from 120MW to 608MW at the end of 2022. The volume of electricity produced by renewable energy sources increased from 274 to 1,275 million kWh.
