MOSCOW, 19 June (BelTA) – The reactor pressure vessel for the second power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is supposed to be delivered to Ostrovets in August 2017, BelTA learned from Mikhail Filimonov, Director General of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, during the Atomexpo forum in Moscow.
“The reactor pressure vessel for the second unit is supposed to be delivered to the construction site in Ostrovets in August. As far as I know, preparations for the delivery are progressing rather lively. There is no doubt that we will get it in August,” said the director of the state enterprise in charge of operating the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The reactor pressure vessel of the first unit has been installed already.
As far as the project's financing is concerned, slightly more than $2.5 billion from the Russian loan has been spent already. The first reactor has used some 36% of the funds while the second one has used about 22%.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the Russian nuclear power plant design AES-2006 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The power plant will have two power-generating units, with each able to generate 1,200MW of electricity. The first unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
