Railways of Belarus, Estonia to increase bilateral cargo transportation

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – The railway companies of Belarus and Estonia are set to increase bilateral cargo transportation operations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Railways.

The heads of the Belarusian Railways and the Estonian Railways met in Minsk to discuss cargo transportation on the Belarus-Estonia route and their prospects. In January-August 2017 the volume of transported cargo exceeded 800,000 tonnes, 2.8 times up from the same period last year. “A decision has been taken to continue the work on preserving and further increasing the volume of cargo transportation between Belarus and Estonia, including the container train ZUBR,” the press service said.

The parties also considered the development of production cooperation between the companies of the Belarusian Railways and the Estonian Railways, including the modernization of the centralized traffic control systems, track and rolling stock maintenance and repairs, supplies of railway products.

During a meeting an agreement was signed between the Belarusian Railways and the Estonian Railways on the information exchange in the international cargo transportation.

According to the press service, the Belarusian Railways is expected to take part in the events of the Belarusian Transport Week: its plenary meeting and conferences. Head of the Belarusian Railways Vladimir Morozov will hold working meetings with Director General of the Lithuanian Railways Mantas Bartuska, President of NC KTZ Kanat Alpysbayev, President of the Latvian Railways Edvins Berzins, Director General of the South-Caucasian Railways Sergei Valko, President of UTLC Aleksei Grom, and representatives of the Polish State Railways.
