Railway container traffic between China, Europe via Belarus on the rise

GRODNO, 12 October (BelTA) – About 3,000 railway containers on the way from China to Europe crossed the border in Grodno Oblast in 2018, representatives of the Grodno Oblast branch of the Belarusian customs service told BelTA.

Freight transit between China and Europe in the Grodno customs house responsibility area is on the rise. For instance, such trains pass through the customs office Bruzgi 1 every week. A Chinese container train has passed through the border checkpoint Svisloch twice but regular trains are expected to pass through that border checkpoint, too.

Containers on the way between China and Europe are loaded primarily with computer equipment, cars and components, water filtering and purification equipment, mineral wool products, paints and varnishes.

The first such train crossed the border in the responsibility area of the Grodno Oblast branch of the Belarusian customs service back in mid-2017. The local customs offices cleared about 200 containers in 2017.
