MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) – It is important to step up manufacturing cooperation among the Eurasian Economic Union member states. President of Russia Vladimir Putin made the statement at a videoconference session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 10 December, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Putin believes that interaction within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union has been developing in a productive manner recently. Even in the current complicated period of time the Eurasian Economic Union countries managed to increase mutual trade through joint efforts. According to Russian estimates, in January-September 2021 trade rose by 10% in comparison with January-September 2020 and exceeded the figure registered in the pre-COVID year.

Among important tasks the Eurasian Economic Union has to accomplished in the future Vladimir Putin mentioned the expansion of manufacturing cooperation, the adoption of an industrial cooperation strategy and the strategy’s implementation. He expressed support for a similar proposal put forward by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko.

Vladimir Putin said: “Russia persistently supports further expansion of mutually beneficial manufacturing cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, which the Belarus president spoke of today. A comprehensive strategy on industrial cooperation of the EAEU member states has been passed this year as well as a roadmap on implementing the strategy. These mutually complementary documents lay the foundation for deeper manufacturing cooperation ties between manufacturing enterprises of our countries and for accelerating import substitution within the framework of the union.”

While speaking during the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council earlier on 10 December, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said it is necessary to invigorate manufacturing cooperation in order to jointly make new products that will sell well on the world market. The president said: “Reconciling the list of joint large-scale high-tech projects and determining the terms for their financing and realization will be an important practical step in this direction. We are working on such projects with the Russian Federation. In order to accomplish this goal within the next few years we have to pay close attention to the introduction of innovative technologies in order not to lose foreign markets. By pooling our resources and the scientific potential of our countries, we can accomplish it to the best effect.”
