Pompeo’s visit to Belarus’ Hi-Tech Park viewed as good sign for business

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo’s visit to Belarus’ Hi-Tech Park is a good sign for the development of business and cooperation with the USA, Director of the Hi-Tech Park Vsevolod Yanchevsky told journalists, BelTA has learned.

“We are really happy that during his visit to the Hi-Tech Park the U.S. secretary of state was pleasantly surprised by our Belarusian developments. It is a good sign for business,” Vsevolod Yanchevsky said.

He stressed that cooperation with the United States in the IT sector is of great importance. “No country in the world can do without it,” Vsevolod Yanchevsky said. “In the world of IT and high technologies, the United States is the number one country, the undisputed leader, because Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook and many others were born there. The United States is the most important market for the Hi-Tech Park,” he added.

“We are proud that the USA and American corporations buy Belarusian software. This proves that we are fully capable of improving the results the Hi-Tech Park has achieved so far,” Vsevolod Yanchevsky added.

The Hi-Tech Park has demonstrated an impressive and steady growth in a number of indicators in recent years. In 2019, the services export of the Hi-Tech Park soared by 52% to $2.1 billion (in 2018, the growth was 38% to $1.4 billion). “We are growing steadily, and dramatically. Now [after Michael Pompeo’s visit] we have received a new impetus. It may sound cliche, but it is true. I think that we will enter a new stage in cooperation, export to the American market, and investments in Belarus. Thank God, we are doing well now, and I believe that in the future we will do even better,” Vsevolod Yanchevsky said.

U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo visited Belarus’ Hi-Tech Park after the meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and the joint briefing with Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei in the Palace of Independence on 1 February.
