PM: Belarus,Cuba resume tractor assembly project

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – We are resuming the assembly of Belarusian tractors in Cuba, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Prime Minister of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz on 17 July, BelTA has learned.

“For our part, we are ready to continue supplying Cuba with milk powder, machine-building goods, spare parts and other goods that are in demand. It is very important that we were able to agree on the resumption of production of Belarusian tractors in Cuba. During your visit to Belarus in November 2023, we agreed to sign a roadmap to this project. This agreement has been implemented. First contracts to supply tractor kits to Cuban enterprises have been signed. We are very much looking forward to the success of this project,” Roman Golovchenko said.

Cooperation with Cuba in the medical sector is of great interest for Belarus. “A project to produce medicines by a Cuban company has been underway in Belarus for a long time. But we want to deepen the localization of production of these drugs and transfer of relevant technologies. Such discussions are being held between the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry and the manufacturer. I ask the Cuban Government for support on this issue,” the prime minister noted.

A project to establish a pharmaceutical joint venture between Belarusian Academpharm and the Cuban company is on the home stretch.

“In addition to the traditional medices (by the way, one of the innovative Cuban anti-cancer drugs has recently been registered in Belarus) we are interested in supplies of rum, cocoa beans, coffee, fruit puree and other commodities. We are ready to discuss these topics and include them in our commodity exchange scheme if we reach agreements on price and quality,” the Belarusian head of government noted.

“We value the special relations with fraternal Cuba and are ready to develop them across the board,” Roman Golovchenko summarized.
