PM: Belarus will step up cooperation in mechanical engineering with Russia’s Bashkortostan

UFA, 11 October (BelTA) - In fact, every meeting gives a new impetus and new idea that we begin to explore together, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the media after talks with Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan of the Russian Federation Radiy Khabirov in Ufa on 11 October, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko noted that in just several years Belarus and the Republic of Bashkortostan have established strong business contacts. "Today we see that we made great advances on several topics in under several years. Yesterday we held a ceremony to hand over the keys to Belarusian equipment. I was impressed, and I think you were too, how warmly this event was received by people," he said.

"We will certainly step up cooperation in mechanical engineering," the Belarusian head of government added. He noted that this area is pivotal. The Republic of Bashkortostan attaches great attention to the state of the fleet of passenger transport, utility vehicles, trucks. New vehicles is a good gift from the government on the eve of the city's anniversary.

Roman Golovchenko also said that now, together with the Bashkortostan enterprise, work is underway in a new avenue of cooperation in mechanical engineering, namely caterpillar tractors.

"But this is only a part of our cooperation portfolio," the Belarusian prime minister said and recalled the the Belarusian president’s instruction to aim for $1 billion in trade with Bashkortostan. "So far we have such a trade with only six regions of the Russian Federation, and this is a really ambitious task that we must fulfill. Bashkortostan should become the seventh region," Roman Golovchenko noted.

He added: "We see that Bashkortostan is committed to work, that it pursues a  thoughtful policy to stimulate new companies in the Republic of Bashkortostan. I think that following Amkodor, other Belarusian enterprises will start looking into the option of creating production sites here."

Roman Golovchenko stressed that there is a lot of work ahead. He also wished Happy Republic Day to Bashkortostan colleagues and partners.

As BelTA reported, Belarus handed over to Bashkortostan about 70 units of vehicles made by its major mechanical engineering enterprises. The handover ceremony took place in Ufa with the participation of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko and head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov. Those were Amkodor loaders, MAZ dump trucks, MTZ tractors and trolleybuses made from MAZ vehicle kits. The Belarusian prime minister also took part in a ceremony to launch the Amkodor-Agidel grain drying plant during a working visit to Ufa. The new Belarusian-Russian joint venture in Bashkortostan will produce grain cleaning and drying complexes for post-harvest processing of grains, legumes, cereals and oilseeds. The capacity of plant is up to 40 such complexes per year. The plant, which was built in just nine months, will create about 500 jobs.
