PM: Belarus, St. Petersburg set ambitious goals in cooperation

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) - Belarus maintains productive cooperation with St. Petersburg of Russia, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told media following the 13th meeting of the Business Cooperation Council of Belarus and St. Petersburg in Minsk on 20 April, BelTA has learned.

"We do not have empty, protocol topics. All areas of cooperation are as specific as possible. All the tasks set during the previous, 12th meeting, which took place in St. Petersburg last year, have been completed. Substantive, concrete, tangible results have been achieved. The best reflection is industrial cooperation, mechanical engineering, supplies of passenger and utility vehicles to St. Petersburg," Roman Golovchenko said.

The parties considered other issues during the meeting and gave specific instructions regarding the cooperation in pharmaceuticals, supplies of elevators, mutual supplies of food products, etc.

"In the first months of this year, we have set a high bar for our trade. The positive trend remains in place in the first three months. In the industrial sector, the trade increased by more than 2.1 times. I am sure that it will be increasing month to month. This should give us the opportunity to beat the goal we set last year - $2.2 billion," the prime minister stressed.

According to him, economic cooperation between Belarus and St. Petersburg has good prospects which are based on a very good, solid foundation of bilateral relations. Humanitarian cooperation is no less important.

"The work continues. The Russian delegation is set to visit to industrial enterprises of Belarus and continue specific negotiations. We seek to reach the highest horizons," Roman Golovchenko stated.
