PM: Belarus seeks closer cooperation with UAE in trade, investment

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in expanding cooperation with the UAE and other countries of the region in trade and investment, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the opening of the Belarusian Investment Forum at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, BelTA has learned.

"Holding the forum at EXPO 2020 is a great opportunity to advance the relations in investment, trade and economy and also to establish new ties with the UAE and other countries of the region. In recent years, the Belarusian-UAE investment cooperation has been growing. An example of our success on this front is the largest construction and real estate project being implemented in Minsk under the patronage of the founder of the world-famous Emaar Properties. I hope that today's event and subsequent bilateral meetings will contribute to the portfolio of direct investments from the UAE and other countries in such sectors as agriculture, industry, services, transport, logistics and others," Roman Golovchenko said.

Belarus has steadily increasing the export of goods and services to the UAE and other countries of the region. Belarus’ main exports include products of petrochemical processing, wood processing, food products and various types of equipment. Belarus also exports computer and transportation services to the UAE. According to the prime minister, the number of tourists from the UAE visiting Belarus has been steadily increasing. “We seek to further increase our traditional exports and launch supplies of various types of machinery, light and heavy industry products. We are also interested in working together to improve and facilitate transport and logistics chains for the delivery of our products to the UAE and other countries of the region,” he said.

Roman Golovchenko said that the government would continue creating favorable conditions for investment projects in Belarus, especially regarding high-tech industries, and also to support investors interested in the development of long-term mutually beneficial contacts.

The Belarusian prime minister took part in the opening ceremony of Belarus' National Day at the EXPO 2020 Dubai and held talks with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and the Commissioner General of the EXPO 2020 Dubai.
