PM: Belarus and Russia have developed strategic response to Western sanctions

MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia have developed a coordinated strategic response to Western sanctions, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 27 March, BelTA has learned.

According to Roman Golovchenko, this is the first meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State in the new geopolitical conditions. “These conditions are associated with unprecedentedly harsh and illegal measures of external pressure on our countries. Contrary to the intentions of certain Western politicians, we have not been hit by waves of economic crises. Belarus and Russia have managed to secure their macroeconomic and financial stability,” the Belarusian head of government said.

In his words, industrial enterprises continue to operate well, increasing production volumes and boosting import substitution processes. “In response to Western sanctions, we have developed coordinated measures of strategic importance, aimed primarily at strengthening the capacity of Belarus and Russia, as well as further development of the Union State. Among them are the principal decision to conduct settlements in the Russian currency, approve of the form of energy pricing, coordinate promising import substitution projects, sign a number of fundamental agreements, including on the transshipment of oil products and foreign trade cargoes, shipping, and cooperation in microelectronics,” Roman Golovchenko said.
