MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) – An international conference of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Silk Road Support Group is scheduled to take place in Minsk in spring 2019. A meeting of the OSCE PA Silk Road Support Group took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. During the meeting Chairman of the Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport, and Communications Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Andrei Rybak outlined the theme of the spring conference, the press service of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament told BelTA.
The Minsk conference will be dedicated to the potential of cooperation in the region, including Belarus’ capabilities as an important link within the framework of forming the Silk Road Economic Belt. In particular, the agenda of the forum is supposed to include topical items concerning the legal regulation of investments and tourism as part of the implementation of the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative. Apart from that, there are plans to discuss the development of infrastructure along the Silk Road from the point of view of the digitization of national economies. “On the second day of the conference its participants will be able to get familiar with investment opportunities in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone and with promising projects being implemented in the park,” added the press service.
In turn, members of the Swiss delegation in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly presented the theme and the draft program for organizing an international conference of the Silk Road Support Group, which is scheduled to take place in Switzerland in September 2019. Draft rules for arranging international events of the Silk Road Support Group and plans to amend the group’s status were discussed during the meeting.
Andrei Rybak also took part in a session of the Standing Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli made a speech to review current international politics. A number of OSCE PA officials presented their reports.
The autumn meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is taking place in Bishkek through 6 October. BelTA reported earlier that Chairman of the Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport, and Communications Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Andrei Rybak will take part in a parliamentary conference on promoting security dialogue in Central Asia and beyond. The conference will focus on ways to combat new challenges and threats in the cross-border areas through stronger trust and tighter regional cooperation. The autumn meeting will also include a Mediterranean forum on “Geopolitics of Central Asia and the Mediterranean: Addressing migration, trade and environmental challenges”. Apart from that, the Belarusian MP intends to have a number of bilateral meetings in Bishkek.
