Plans to build three pharmaceutical plants in Belarus with participation of India

SKIDEL, 12 January (BelTA) – At least three new pharmaceutical plants will be opened in Belarus in the coming years, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Mikhail Myasnikovich said during the ground-breaking ceremony for the new plant in Skidel, BelTA has learned.

During the working visit to Grodno Oblast, Mikhail Myasnikovich attended a ceremony to lay a capsule with a message to descendants and the foundation stone of the new Belarusian-Indian pharmaceutical enterprise in Skidel.

“Our country maintains active political contacts with India. We have many good investment projects, develop scientific and technical cooperation. Bearing in mind that India has a strong presence on the pharmaceutical the market, we reached an agreement with Indian partners to build, within the next 2 to 3 years, at least 3 pharmaceutical plants, with the participation of Indian capital,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. He stressed that the plans are successfully implemented. In particular, the first phase of the pharmaceutical plant in the town of Beshenkovichy has already been commissioned. The project to build a plant in Kolyadichy near Minsk has passed examination by experts. In fact, the construction has already started.

“The plant near Skidel is the third one. It is created on the basis of the already operating enterprise. I am sure it will be successful,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. He noted that the plant will make new, unique drugs, including expensive medicines.

“Indian pharmaceutical companies operate successfully because they produce high-quality raw materials and medications which cost much lower than European or American products,” Mikhail Myasnikovich noted.

The Belarusian-Indian enterprise which is being developed on the premises of RUP Belmedpreparaty in Skidel will produce medicines to treat HIV, tuberculosis and cancer: up to 50 kinds of medicines in the future. The first set of equipment is to be installed by the end of the year. The amount of investment is approximately $2.8 million. The Belarusian-Indian joint venture OOO Novalok was established by RUP Belmedpreparaty and the Indian company Lok-Beta Pharmaceuticals (I) Pvt Ltd.
