MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – The first session of the working group in charge of discussing problems and working out measures to ensure the stable operation of enterprises and the production sector as a whole took place at premises of the Belarusian Economy Ministry on 30 April, the ministry’s press service told BelTA.
Belarusian Economy Minister Aleksandr Chervyakov noted: “We saw that in Q1 2020 the economy soldiered on thanks to its potential, momentum, and previously received orders but the situation became complicated due to uncertainty later on. Everything depends on the length of quarantine restrictions on the movement of workforce, on the transportation of cargoes and so on in various countries. All these processes are having a significant effect on Belarus due to the openness of our economy. In these uncertain times it is extremely important to send the right impulses to the economy, to its branches, to help manufacturing enterprises get their bearings regarding how they should proceed from now on.”
It is the job of the working group to work out ways to preserve the operating capability of the production sector in the current situation. The group will also have to put together a program to guide the sector’s development in the new conditions. Aleksandr Chervyakov emphasized that it is necessary to decide on national priorities before tackling these goals.
Aleksandr Chervyakov suggested employment and security as the key priorities all the actions and proposals should be centered around. “If people keep jobs and get paid, naturally we will get social stability, a certain demand. When we talk about security, we mean food security, the enabling of proper conditions for life, we talk about the health of the nation, about energy security, comfortable life, mobility, and information. We should bear in mind these two priorities as we work out industry-level priorities We need to understand the market situation and see the buyers of the products our production sector will make,” the economy minister explained.
The official explained that the chosen priorities of industrial development should help single out the competences that should be preserved and bolstered in conditions of the global economic decline, the competences that should be further developed in the period of recovery. It is also necessary to single out the enterprises that have to be transformed by leveraging the available science and technology.
“The current situation should be viewed as a window of opportunity to make changes, become more effective, get reorganized for the better,” Aleksandr Chervyakov stated.
