Moldova looking into joint venture with Gomel Oblast to co-assemble agricultural equipment

GOMEL, 10 August (BelTA) – Moldova is interested in setting up a joint venture to assemble agricultural equipment together with Gomel Oblast, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Belarus Victor Sorocean told the media as he visited Gomel Oblast on 10 August, BelTA has learned.

“We are interested in the initiative to co-assemble combine harvesters in Moldova. The idea was put forward by Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik. We have some background in this field because we assemble Belarusian trams. For our part, we are ready to offer vegetables, wine-based products, and wine. We need to develop this branch of economy,” Ambassador Victor Sorocean remarked.

The ambassador pointed out that his visit is designed to build up Belarus-Moldova trade. “It is important that we are working to shift the focus onto the regions. This is how we are promoting business between the countries where there is interest in it. We are interested in the Eurasian market, while Belarus in the European Union where we have preferences,” the diplomat underlined.

The Moldovan ambassador is paying his second visit to Gomel Oblast on 10 August. The first one took place during the Gomel Economic Forum in May 2017. Ambassador Victor Sorocean stressed that the latter gave a positive impetus to Belarus-Moldova relations. He also said that a delegation of Gomel Oblast is expected to visit Moldova in November 2017 to sign a cooperation agreement with Gagauzia.

Ambassador Victor Sorocean also visited the Gomel-based branch office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, met with its top executives and representatives of several regional companies.
