MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – The session of the CIS Intergovernmental Council for Agricultural Industry will be held in Minsk on 21-22 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
Members of the Council for Agricultural Industry will sum up the preliminary results of the agricultural industry performance in 2017, consider the proposals to develop interstate agricultural cooperation and specialization and to establish the common agricultural market in accordance with the action plan for the third stage (2016-2020) of the CIS Economic Development Strategy (till 2020). The matter of land degradation in the CIS countries will be also on the agenda.
Participants of the session will review the state of the sugar market and prospects to develop the sugar beet seeds market, and also the trends in the grain, meat and dairy markets.
The Intergovernmental Council members intend to discuss the measures to reduce agro-logistic restrictions between the CIS countries, and to review the cooperation in reclamation of land and so on.
The CIS Intergovernmental Council for Agricultural Industry was set up in 1993. It includes the heads of central executive bodies in agricultural industry. The Council coordinates the joint activities and efforts of the CIS states to promote the sustainable development of agricultural production, establish the common agricultural market, implement the scientific and investment policies, provide logistical support for the agricultural industry, promote standardization and certification, legal protection of the intellectual property and provide agrochemical maintenance.
The press service of the CIS Executive Committee noted that the Council contributes to economic cooperation and integration in agriculture.
