Minsk Oblast, China’s Chongqing city sign twinning agreement

Minsk Oblast, China’s Chongqing city sign twinning agreementNESVIZH, 24 March (BelTA) – Minsk Oblast and the Chinese city of Chongqing have been twinned. The relevant agreement was signed on 24 March, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by Minsk Oblast Governor Semyon Shapiro and Chongqing Vice Governor Liu Guiping.

Before the document was signed, delegations of the two sides held negotiations. Semyon Shapiro underlined that Belarus and China are connected by solid partnership. “Both sides work hard to advance these relations. Thanks to Chinese partners the economic image of our country is changing. The China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone, which is located in Minsk Oblast, is one of the most vivid examples. The Minsk Oblast Executive Committee is a co-founder of the park,” he reminded.

Semyon Shapiro also spoke in positive terms about the level of Minsk Oblast’s relations with a number of internationally recognized Chinese companies, including China Merchants, CITIC, Sinomach, and many other ones. In his words, there are plans to open a SZAO BelGee car factory in Minsk Oblast in 2017. It will be one of the largest projects not only for Minsk Oblast but the entire country. The head of the Minsk Oblast administration underlined that the Belarusian side was interested in expanding cooperation and is ready to offer a site not only for making Chinese products but also for promoting them to the markets of the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
