Minsk, Ankara consider delivery of Belarusian goods to Turkey by water transport

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – Prospects for the delivery of Belarusian goods to Turkey along the Dnieper were discussed at a meeting between Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich and Turkey Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım on 7 August, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic.

The parties welcomed the entry into force of the intergovernmental agreement to develop a mutual trade facilitation system, the so-called green corridor of fast-track customs clearance of goods. “To further reduce the costs of delivery of Belarusian export goods to Turkey Mikhail Myasnikovich and Binali Yıldırım discussed the prospects for deliver of goods by water transport along the Dnieper River, the construction of a port for “river-sea class” vessels in Nizhnie Zhary locality in Gomel Oblast,” the press service noted.

During the meeting the parties also discussed the cooperation in trade and economy. It was noted that further development of economic cooperation is an important step given the developing friendly relations between the two countries. “Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that Turkey is among the most important and promising economic partners of Belarus. One of the priorities of economic cooperation with Turkey for Belarus is to promote industrial cooperation. Belarusian enterprises are already working with Turkish partners on developing the facilities to assemble farm machines, construction and utilities vehicles and other special-purpose equipment,” the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament informed.

Particular attention was paid to the ways of deepening cooperation in the banking sector, namely the setting up of a banking institution in Belarus with Turkish participation and a possibility of making settlements in national currencies.

At the end of the meeting the Chairman of the Council of the Republic invited the Turkish head of government to pay an official visit to Belarus.
