MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – As much as 70% of the work required to build the second runway in the Minsk National Airport has been done, BelTA learned from the airport’s Director General Dmitry Melikyan on 19 December.
“Roughly 70% of the work has been done. About 30% will be done next year but it will be primarily equipment installation, startup and commissioning,” said the official. “The second runway is being built in order to keep us in business at all times unlike, for instance, the Vilnius airport where services are suspended for the duration of repairs. We will not suspend our operations after the second runway is commissioned.”
The construction of the second runway in the Minsk National Airport began in October 2016. The runway will be fitted with modern equipment and will be able to handle all types of aircraft without restrictions. The work is supposed to be finished in 2018.
