Ministry: Belarus boosts dairy export to Europe despite sanctions

Ministry: Belarus boosts dairy export to Europe despite sanctions
Sergei Fedchenko

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) - Despite the sanctions, Belarus has increased the export of dairy products to Europe, Belarusian First Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Sergei Fedchenko told the media on the sidelines of the second international forum “Agriculture of Belarus. Dairy Farming”

"This forum is designed to popularize our agricultural industry, especially dairy products, both within the country and abroad. Today Belarus has something to be proud of. We have achieved great successes in dairy farming. In 2022 Belarus’ agricultural export reached $8.3 billion, up by almost 30%, or $1.5 billion in monetary terms over a year prior. This became possible thanks to the most advanced production methods that we us in agriculture, in particular in animal husbandry," Sergei Fedchenko said.

He added that in our country there are 1,500 advanced farms. More so, Belarus produces all the equipment necessary for dairy farms, he added.

"I would like to note that despite the sanctions, Belarus has not reduced the export of dairy products either to Russia or to the countries of Western Europe. On the contrary, we have increased export by 1.5 times to Poland and other EU countries," Sergei Fedchenko said.

Speaking about plans for 2023, he said the dairy industry is not going to stop at the results it has achieved.

"This year milk output has risen by 5% year-on-year. I am sure that we will continue to increase the output and export of dairy products," Sergei Fedchenko assured.

According to him, the biggest contributors to milk production in the country are Brest Oblast, which added 8% to the output in 2023, Grodno Oblast (about 7%) and Minsk Oblast (about 5%).
