Meeting of Belarus-Turkey trade commission scheduled for May

MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – The next session of the Belarusian-Turkish trade and economic intergovernmental commission is scheduled to take place in Minsk in May, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Turkey Andrei Savinykh said in an interview with the Kontury program on the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The Turkish side shows interest in closer cooperation with Belarus. I will give you one example. We have a bilateral trade and economic intergovernmental commission. Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei chairs the Belarusian part of the commission. Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus was appointed to chair the Turkish part of the commission three weeks ago. This means that Turkey attaches great importance to this matter,” Andrei Savinykh stressed.

He pointed out that Numan Kurtulmus suggested holding the next meeting of the commission in late May. “We expect that a large delegation of Turkish businessmen will come to Minsk. Besides, we have a Belarusian-Turkish business council that is also expected to sit in Minsk. Its main task is to analyze new joint projects, find areas in which Turkey and Belarus complement each other and build the foundation for a considerable growth in both trade and investment cooperation,” Andrei Savinykh added.

As for the recent participation of a Belarusian delegation in the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, the Ambassador noted that the event was one of its kind. “It is for the first time that the possibility of granting observer status in the organization to a Christian country is considered. Belarus pursues a peaceful foreign policy, and our country is playing an increasingly prominent role. This policy is reflected in our position in the United Nations, and in promoting the settlement of a number of regional conflicts. Belarus is an exporter of stability for its own region and the whole world, and this did not go unnoticed by the Islamic world,” Andrei Savinykh explained.
