Lukashenko urges to build up internal reserves despite sanctions

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) – Sustainable growth is one of the country's goals, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with senior local government officials to discuss topical social and political issues in Minsk on 30 July, BelTA has learned.

The head of state highlighted the need for consistent fulfillment of the decisions adopted at the Belarusian People’s Congress, thus ensuring the sustainable growth of the country.

"The key decisions adopted at the congress remain priorities for us, despite the external circumstances. Whatever difficulties the sanctions create, this is a good reason to build up our internal reserves, improve the governance system, step up work with investors and become stronger every day. We must not yield an inch in terms of gross domestic product, economic growth. In no way, it might be acceptable," the Belarusian leader stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko urged enterprises to search new contracts, tap into new markets and growth points. "We should not allow a decrease in output and sale of industrial and agricultural products. This is the essence of our counter-sanctions," he said.

The president urged to pay special attention to the towns with a population under 80,000: "We have adopted the necessary decisions. First of all, the administrations of these towns should work more actively. The governors should keep an eye and ministers see to it that the targets and plans are fulfilled."
