Lukashenko urges government to be more frugal

MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) – We need to be more frugal and trim unnecessary spending, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the session held on 3 December to discuss the social and economic development of the country, BelTA informs.

"It should be remembered that people do not care about figures and indicators. Our citizens are concerned about salary, work, prices. In this context, I would like to know whether we have planned enough measures in the areas I supervise," the head of state addressed the participants of the meeting.

He noted that the draft budget for 2022 runs a deficit. "On the one hand, it is clear why. We have incurred unplanned expenses that were difficult to predict. But on the other hand, the question is whether everyone is frugal and doing their best to reduce unnecessary expenditures that we have a lot of. Therefore, the issue of frugality comes to the fore. Are there sources to cover the deficit? May this lead to problems with the fulfillment of social obligations?" the president outlined a number of priority issues.

"In practice, this means that we will have to focus more on discipline and flexibility: to reorient to friendly trade and financial markets and ignore the attacks of the West," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state dwelled on the proposals to amend the tax legislation for 2022. "Has this step been thoroughly thought out? What is the reaction in society to these proposals?” the president asked. “Everyone has the documents, so I ask the participants of the meeting to be ready to express a personal reasoned opinion on all sensitive positions."
