Lukashenko invites Ukraine to collaborate in missile engineering

Lukashenko invites Ukraine to collaborate in missile engineering

ZHITOMIR, 4 October (BelTA) – Belarus would like to set up joint ventures and cooperate in missile engineering with Ukraine, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at an expanded-participation meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on 4 October, BelTA has learned.

“This is not just about trade. We have taken a decision in principle. The intergovernmental commission that will convene in Kiev (we agreed on this, too) will pass specific decisions on the establishment of joint ventures in Ukraine. As of now, nine big companies (from Belarus) operate here, and also in Belarus,” the president said.

He mentioned one of promising avenues of cooperation as he talked with Volodymyr Zelensky: “We do not have military ambitions. However, we are working hard to develop missile engineering in Belarus. We have never had such an industry before, but you have it. We would really appreciate if you helped us with it.”

“If you get involved, we will be able to implement this joint project within 1.5-2 years. Otherwise, the project will take 4-5 years. Money is also an important part of our considerations,” the head of state said.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarus is ready to invest in Ukraine and set up joint ventures in civilian industries there, like enterprises to produce vehicles, tractors, heavy-duty machinery and other machines. “We are ready to go as far as making an equity investment in these companies. In other words, we have discussed a number of very important issues,” the president said.
