Lukashenko demands to increase cement export

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – It is essential to raise the efficiency of cement enterprises and increase cement export, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he appointed new heads of certain enterprises on 16 May, BelTA informs.

“We need to look for sales markets for our cement. We have enough cement. Cement manufacturers used to ask to double production and modernize production facilities. We need to step up efforts in this field, pay off loans,” the president stressed. “But for this purpose it is essential to improve export. There are many problems in this area. I even thought that somebody created these problems, especially in Russia’s direction. Yes, it is not that easy to work with Russia. Many people there want to put pressure on us. Competition is sometimes unfair.”

The head of state was informed that the situation with the export of cement has improved. Plants diversified exports, focused on the European market where people are ready to pay more for Belarusian products. The export to Poland, Latvia and Ukraine soared as well.

Domestic sales are also good. The president said that it is necessary to diversify the use of cement.

According to the head of state, he is concerned about the attempts to privatize enterprises, especially in Grodno. “This is an extreme measure. It is essential to support an enterprise and make it work. We will get more if we sell it later. But I do not want to sell these enterprises,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president thanked the new directors who agreed to lead the enterprises in a complicated situation. “If you cope with the job you will be really appreciated in Belarus. This is the situation at all enterprises, probably, except for Beltopgaz where we have normal specialists. You should do your best.”

The president pledged all-round support to the new directors and warned them that it is inadmissible to use their status for personal gain. “Honesty is a priority for you. You know what I mean and where I cannot protect you. I just cannot do it. It contradicts my principles. Corruption is a disgrace,” the president said. “But you are experienced and smart people. I think everything will be all right.”
