KAZAN, 24 October (BelTA) – At the meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during the BRICS summit in Kazan on 24 October, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said that he hopes to find a solution to the mutual settlements issue with Vietnam, BelTA has learned.
“We cooperate very actively on international platforms. We have virtually no problems with each other. We back each other. We support Vietnam in some matters, Vietnam supports us in others. We will keep it up. As far as our trade and economic cooperation is concerned (this is the core of our relations), in 2023 we made great progress and our trade exceeded $250 million,” the head of state said.
He pointed to a problem with mutual settlements. “Of course, we would not want Vietnam to fall under any sanctions because of us. Although we understand that it is not so easy to punish Vietnam now. It is a very powerful, large and developed country,” he noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko is confident that all issues can be solved if enough effort is applied. “Therefore, we would very much ask you to find acceptable solutions for mutual settlements during the visit of senior officials of the National Bank of Belarus to Vietnam,” he remarked.
