MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – This year Belarus expects a very good harvest; thus the country can earn a lot of money by exporting agricultural products, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he hosted a meeting on 23 July to discuss the country’s economic performance, BelTA has learned.

“The agricultural sector is set to produce a bountiful harvest like never before in the history of Belarus. If the harvest is really so good and if we have good milk and meat yields and increase our agricultural export,  the country will have money. Farmers have every opportunity to improve their economic standing,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

At the same time, the head of state noted that harvesting should be done properly and in time to avoid losses. He instructed people in charge to closely oversee the harvesting process and the export of agricultural products.

The president voiced concern over the situation in the manufacturing sector. The head of state is convinced that despite economic difficulties in the world, domestic producers still have an opportunity to sell their products. Atlant, a company that produces refrigerators and freezers, is a case in point. This year the manufacturer has set a record in sales, because unlike many companies abroad it did not suspend operations and managed to boost sales, including in the Russian market. “Why cannot other companies follow suit? Many do this,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko urged the manufacturing industry to take advantage of Belarus’ decision not to put production on hold. “The global economy has shrunk. The demand for raw materials has dropped. If the demand for raaw materials, materials, metals and so on has decreased, it means prices have also dropped. Thus, our manufacturers can buy raw materials at lower prices.
