MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko began the open lesson "Historical memory - the road to the future" with important economic topics, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that 8.050 million tonnes of cereals were harvested in Belarus yesterday. "We are harvesting spiked cereals: wheat, barley, rye, triticale and so on. There are also grain crops like rapeseed that grows in pods. There are also crops that grow in cobs such as corn. We are having a lesson, so I am explaining these things to you. So, the harvest of 8.050 million is spiked cereals,” the head of state told the audience. “There is an opportunity, as I said, to collect 11 million tonnes of grain. This has never happened in the history of our country. Why do we need bread in the country? Firstly, we need to eat ourselves, and secondly, we need to feed animals so that there is milk and meat. Most likely that this year’s harvest will be closer to 8.200 million tonnes."

The president also drew attention to the development of industry in the country. "I recently visited BelOMO, an optical and mechanical plant. This is a decent enterprise that have customers queuing up for its most advanced products: optics, electronics. Why am I giving you an example of this enterprise? We have thousands of them and the future belongs to them. Well, BelAZ, MAZ are operating at the full capacity. We are under sanctions, but, nevertheless, the demand for the products of the mechanical engineering flagships is huge," the president stated.

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that now the Belarusian nuclear power plant is coming on stream, Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation (BNBC)  is being built. It is going to the most advanced biotechnology corporation in Belarus. "We are engaged in rocket engineering, making new products that will be launched into space. Two Belarusian spacecraft are already flying over our planet. We are creating a biological cluster in Vitebsk Oblast. It will produce not only antiviral drugs, but also the most modern drugs. I am not talking about the High-Tech Park, because such parks have been set up at almost every enterprise. BelAZ or the Academy of Sciences employs people who not only work part-time for foreign companies but also create products, from software to equipment, that work unmanned in quarries not only of Belarus but also in countries around the globe. By the way, BelAZ holds more than 30% of the market of such products in the world. Why am I talking about this? These are super-new technologies that  can be made only by advanced and very rich countries," the president said. Speaking about BNBC, the head of state stressed that it is only four countries that have the enterprises of the level of BNBC and added that his friendly relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping played an important role in this.

"Now the Armed Forces are on high alert. So are border guards, army, police, special services, because the situation around the country does not allow us to let our guards down even for a minute. We are talking with you now, and they are standing guard over our peace along the perimeter of the entire border," the president said.

As for education, according to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the current academic year will be special as the new legislation on education is adopted. "We are improving our legislation. During this year and next year, we will finish what we have planned in terms of modernization and reforming of our education system. In a word, life goes on," the president noted.
