MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ banking sector performed very well in 2021, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he heard out a report by Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Pavel Kallaur and Aide to the President for the Development of the Financial and Credit System Valery Belsky, BelTA has learned.
“In line with our agreements, we did not publicly discuss finances, the credit and financial system, everything related to money for a long time. This is probably right. Money loves silence, as you, bankers, would always say. We have gathered today not to discuss problems. Quite the opposite. Last year you did a great job, the entire banking sector did a good job. Yet, the economy did well, too. The economy kept working,” the president said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the foreign trade surplus amounted to $4 billion last year. “Therefore, the economy kept working, thank God. We have every opportunity to fulfill our commitments this year and achieve the goals set by the Belarusian People’s Congress and specified for this year. We set these goals in order to maintain economic growth,” the head of state said.
