VILNIUS, 10 April (BelTA-ELTA) – Lithuania is ready to receive more cargoes from Belarus. The statement was made by Lithuanian Communications and Transport Minister Rokas Masiulis as he encouraged the Klaipeda port and Lithuanian Railways to do their best competing for contracts with Belarus.

In a Facebook post Rokas Masiulis wrote that the amount of Belarusian freight handled by Lithuanian Railways steadily increased in the first few months of the year thanks to consistent work with Belarus. The official stressed that Lithuania is ready to handle more freight from Belarus. “Some of these cargoes are moved via the Klaipeda port. Lithuanian Railways and the Klaipeda port are ready to handle more Belarusian freight. We should fight for every tonne. Stable business relationships with neighbors who clearly appreciate the principles of transparency-based cooperation with Lithuania are essential,” the minister wrote.

Rokas Masiulis encouraged Lithuanian Railways and the Klaipeda port to unite efforts in fighting for contracts with Belarus. “At the same time, we must clearly understand that all the ports on the East Baltic coast are in competition for Belarusian contracts. Conversations and negotiations are ongoing. Therefore, all Lithuanian logistic chains – the port, the railways - must make maximum and united efforts in this competitive struggle. I’ve demanded and will continue demanding this unity and maximum effort,” the official wrote.
