Latvian films shown in Minsk

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – The Days of Latvian Cinema opened in Minsk on 25 March. The opening ceremony took place in the movie theater Pobeda, BelTA has learned.

According to Belarusian Culture Minister Boris Svetlov, Belarusian people have an opportunity to watch the best films which have been produced in Latvia in recent years. The program of the event includes meetings with Latvian filmmakers, for example, with Janis Streics.

The minister said that the exhibition of the Latvian amber museum will open in Belarus in the near future. Apart from that, one of the best Latvian choirs will give a performance here.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Belarus Mihails Popkovs, in turn, stressed that such cultural events give an impetus to the development of relations between the two countries. This film program is dedicated to the presidency of Latvia in the European Union Council. He noted that Belarusian and Latvian cinema have also maintained close contacts. Latvian actors have taken part in Belarusfilm movies; Belarusian specialists have implemented joint projects with Latvia. The Ambassador presented a collection of movies from the golden fund of the Latvian cinema to the Belarusian culture minister. It will be submitted to the Museum of History of the Belarusian Cinema.

The Days of Latvian Cinema will take place in Minsk on 25-27 March. The program includes fiction films, documentaries and animated films.
